Some of the best lessons I have ever learned, some of the best stories, and some of the best history lessons have come from sitting around my parents playing pitch with my grandparents. Other family members too. Great stories of struggle, loss, and vindication. Stories not written down anywhere, that are slowly just becoming mine unless I pass them on. I also learned how to mix very strong drinks(even snuck a few). I urge my kids and students to sit with their elders and just listen. Go to nursing homes and hold a hand and just listen. Soak up history.

The trifecta was when we forced high school kids to start having babies during the 1980s for the first time ever.

The quadrafecta was when we started hiring actors to pretend to have massacres at schools to take away everyone's guns.
