how many of you guys have had to interview in front of a hiring committee? if so, who was on it?
last time we hired here, they decided to go the committee route and the supe decided who was on the committee. the committee was made up of the supe, asst supe, HS principal, a local pastor, president of the local juco, AD of the local juco, and 2 community members.
to me........that sounds like a bit much. just wondering what you guys have seen.

Just interviewed with one. HS and JH principal, AD and asst AD/girls BB coach. Not a single former football coach in the bunch.

Sup., H.S. Principal, M.S. Principal/Asst Coach, sup.s brother(who was a local business man with a son on the team) Interviewed, walked out and called my wife told her no reason to waste anymore thought on moving there!

I have entered that ring. I lost the battle, but I fought in the arena..........
Superintendent, Athletic Director, 3 school board members, and an Assistant Supe for personnel were present. I was a finalist for the HC job.

I interviewed at at place that had principal, former educator that coached, and a local booster. I think you get over 5 people it gets to be a bit much.

If there is a board member present then the board has to much power more than likely.

Supt, AD, Prin, English teacher, Bio Teacher, some lady who owned a store in town, lady who owned the DQ. I was the only dude. They wanted me for the 3 finalists. I said thanks but move up the 4th place guy. It was a good move. Guy who got job left in 2 and they have had 4 HFC in 10 years.

There were 5 finalists for the gig I interviewed for. Interviews were on thurs/fri.

Not a single former football coach in the bunch. that's the problem i have with hiring committees. if there isn't a current football coach or former football coach on the committee, how in the h3ll will anyone know what the guy being interviewed is talking about if they ask him scheme questions? IMO, it should be no more than 3 people. the supe, the HS principal, and the AD. no board members, no community members, etc. i do think that those on the hiring committee should at the very least get some input from the current guys on staff as well. let them know who the potential candidates are they will be working for or are getting ready to leave a spot open for the new guy to hire.

In 2008, I was a finalist at Frederick, which is my home town. The final interview was 3 tiered. 1 hour with the HS principal and AD (two different people). 1 hour with the existing coaching staff(you had to keep all of them and they had a say on which of the two finalist they wanted). Lastly, you had an hour with the superintendent along with one board member and the head of the booster club who was president of the bank. GOOD TIMES!!

GOOD TIMES!! to me, this part is bad. input should be taken from the guys that are currently on staff, but i don't think they should have any say in who is interviewed. they shouldn't meet them either. just my opinion.

The place I'm at, first interview was with sup, ad, and hs prin. 2nd interview in front of the board and they made the decision that night. I got my phone call about midnight.

I would go out to the field house and look at the kids first JH and HS then decide if I wanted to interview

I had to interview in front of a committee, consisted of Supt, Assistant Supt, HS Principal, Athletic Dir, and one faculty member. Answering their questions were difficult because only one of the committee members had ever had any coaching experience. On more than one occasion I had to tell them that I wasn't really sure how to answer their question because I didn't understand it.
