I got a question for you esteemed Oklahoma educators/coaches on this website. With the impending "Teacher Strike/Walk-out" and Spring Break coming for many of us in the next week or so, are you guys teaching anything or going about your daily routine in your classrooms like normal. I am letting kids complete missing class assignments, especially from the days I was gone to tennis tournaments. (Yes I said tennis, I am an assistant tennis coach because I have my CDL). I really don't want to get into anything new because we have "Hog Week" next week which interrupts classes, then Spring Break, "Hog Week" when we come back and supposedly our work stoppage. I was just wondering what you guys were doing or going to do.

Technically you can't in Oklahoma since it is a "Right To Work" state.

by law, we strike, our certificates are null and void.

texas is a right to work state also....but you can still strike....can't you? Supposedly you can't officially strike from my understanding. That's why it has been called a "Teacher Walkout."

by law, we strike, our certificates are null and void. what happens if everyone calls in sick everyday for a week or two? good question, but I'm sure it has something to do with district policies of consecutive days taken off must be approved or doctor's note shown. districts would hammer down in the case of a strike.

In Oklahoma teachers can't strike against their school boards, but in this case it would be against the State Legislature and that is not against the law.

A bit worried about this thing. I want to stand in solidarity with my fellow teachers. But I don't see this going our way. They continue to not only refuse to give us raises and increase per pupil expenditures, but they are actively finding other ways to cut education money, and they don't care. And the voters don't care. The wind farm tax increase will hurt schools, the bill for getting rid of current step increases and being able to lower pay is out of committee. We want to back them down? They are doubling down.

better hope they don't find a way to just fire all of you. Tenure was taken away a few years ago, so they have already done that.

I have never wanted to do anything else. My wife can do other things. I blame her for us being poor.

I'm only 10 years out from retirement...no sense/since/cents bailing/baling out of it now and losing/loosing 75% of my retirement.

I enjoy some of my classes, some of them I want to just open the doors and tell them to play in traffic.
