all depends on how the interview is guided too.
does HC want to talk scheme, will he want to talk drills, will he want to talk coaching style, will he want to talk about how simple you can keep things, etc. gotta be prepared for all of it.

Avoid saying "I" do it this way..........say "we" do it this way. "I" guys drive me crazy. "I shut-out School A and I created 4 turnovers against School B." Give the vibe that you are a team player and you can get along with anyone. Experience is a key, too. When questions are asked, if you have experienced the questions, your experiences will help.

I just went through an interview and was told later by the AD that they were concerned that I said too much about what "we" do (at my current school) and not enough about my ideas. I've been there 10 years working for the same man. I'm not sure how to answer any other way.

I've heard a lot of well respected coaches, now as well as you KD, say the exact same thing. I've also have been given the advice of, when asked about ANY schools you have ever been to in your career to always talk good about them and the things you learned from those places no matter what the situation. You never want to bash another school in your interview no matter how bad the experience was.

I would stay away from that AD and his school, if he feels that way.

Seems like the rest of them wanted an "I" guy. That's just not me. Football is the ultimate "we" game, whether as a player or as a coach.

I'd pretty much already decided I wasn't going to take it. Not into taking a pay cut to be a head coach.

What did I say to finalize this for you? It's so true. I was amazed when the AD told me the issue they had with me. I have worked for a great coach for 10 years. Learned so much. Of course I'm going to talk about how WE do things. Why else would you be interviewing me? I have worked in a successful program which they are wanting to have. Wouldn't they want to hear how WE'VE done it. It's certainly not about ME.

If I were hiring a DC I would want to know that he has a solid grasp of coverage and how that dictates the front and blitz etc.
