It's so true. I was amazed when the AD told me the issue they had with me. I have worked for a great coach for 10 years. Learned so much. Of course I'm going to talk about how WE do things. Why else would you be interviewing me? I have worked in a successful program which they are wanting to have. Wouldn't they want to hear how WE'VE done it. It's certainly not about ME. I'm pretty sure you're talking about the home of Will Rogers. Tuff job, if that is the one you're referring. I think the Supe there is graduating or needs to graduate. May get better with new leadership.

I'd have taken a pay cut as DC at our place to be HC there. Crazy.

KW, true story. If the applicant did not have a solid grasp of that, well, I would probably keep looking.

OL and Sec are the toughest to coach and if you dont have one of those you get exposed quick

i've been a DC for 2 years. was the DL coach for a long time before that. i'm still learning secondary stuff all the time. don't want to say i was lost my first year of being a DC, but i could tell that i had never paid the attention to the secondary like i should have when i became the DC.

Anytime you step into a new position, no matter how well you think you are ready, the unexpected will come along. Its how you adjust that determines how good you are. And that boils down to preparing for the unexpected. Expecting the unexpected. Crazy I know. Had a guy that was the DB coach. Hated one of the kids. Told me I was it now and he would only coach offense. He was the HC so he made the calls. I learned a lot. Some of you guys know him.

Luckily by the time I became DC I'd coached all the defensive positions. I'd always played in the secondary through HS and College. Coached DB's my first 3 years and then went to Dline. Dline was freaking hard for me, it was very unfamiliar but I eventually caught on. Then went to linebackers for 5 years, which I loved and now back to the secondary. Coaching Dline did more for me than anything else, really opened my eyes as to how important technique is. Coaching linebackers made me see how crucial run fits were and how the backers coverage was tied to the secondary. It's been a good decade for me coaching wise.

Well, just to follow up on the interview... It went well I thought, I couldn't have answered the questions any better than what I did. It was strange, it was in front of a committee of 5 (HC, AD, OC, HS Principal, and JH Coord). Not a lot of X's and O's talk. A ton of philosophy questions. I don't know if I the guy they are looking for, I think they are looking for more experience. By the way questions were worded it kind of gave away some of the problems they have been having (or maybe not, maybe I just read it that way). Seems like there is a division between the offensive and defensive staff and mistrust between the staff. I still think it would be a good opportunity though.

Highest paid bus driver in the state is all fine and good but only so many times I can play dominos with Pete and Manuel during the day.
